Already for the 24th time, AST has changed the area between Vienna City Hall, Burgtheater, Parliament and University into the so called Eistraum (ice dream). This year, visitors and city dwellers can enjoy ice skating and stock sports on 9.000 m² of perfect ice. There's also a spectacular innovation: The elevated, 850 m² large "SkyRink" offers a unique skating experience combined with a stunning view!
The two floors are a special feature of Wiener Eistraum: „24 years ago, we created something very unique with building this ice rink right in the city centre, which is now often copied by other cities. Now we repeated this approach by installing two levels – an urban sports paradise of the next generation and an impressive proofe of Vienna’s ability to be a creative and practical orientated pioneer when it comes to innovation, offers for citizens and leisure culture,“ comments Mayor Michael Ludwig.
Also Peter Hanke, city councillor for finance and economy, sees the many advantages of the ice rink: „Wiener Eistraum is part of the worldwide ‚premier division’ of ice rinks next to New York and Moskau and definitely a significant factor for Vienna’s success in winter tourism. We want to enthuse people for sports and physical activities, also in winter. Wiener Eistraum is a beautiful and impressive incentive for this. Every season, our free school events enable 40.000 kids to go ice skating. I’m very pleased, that this offer is so well received.“
