Red Bull Crashed Ice under palm trees
The first race of this year’s RBCI season takes place in a very special setting on the shores of the Mediterranean. Thanks to advancements of the ice track and a new high-tech cooling system, it is possible to hold races in warmer cities like Barcelona, Rome or even Istanbul. Christian Papillon, Red Bull Crashed Ice Sporting Director, says: „The temperatures in Marseille forced us to improve and protect the ice system. It's a great technology advancement and opens up all kinds of possibilities around the globe. We'll continue to push the limits."
As is previous years, the system is developed, delivered and installed by AST. A team of 30 specialists and assistants worked round-the-clock for eight days to build the 10 cm-thick ice track. The 340 m-long skateway connects two of the city’s most famous sights: It starts at Hotel Dieu, which dates back to 1188 and ends at the old harbour Le Vieux Port
