World Synchronized Skating Championships 2026 in Salzburg

23.04.2026

On April 10 and 11, 2026, Salzburg became the international center of synchronized figure skating:
For the World Synchronized Skating Championships 2026, we at AST Ice and Solar Technology had the privilege of transforming the Salzburgarena into a custom-built temporary ice arena.

In a venue that usually hosts concerts, congresses, and major live shows, we created the technical foundation for an international world-class sporting event featuring the 22 best teams in the world.

Customized Ice Technology for a World-Class Event

For this major international event, we were responsible for the complete planning and implementation of the ice surface on site. Our scope of work included:

- Construction of a 27.5 x 59.5 meter ice surface including full boarding system

- Installation of high-performance cooling technology for optimal conditions

- Use of modern ice resurfacing technology for consistently high ice quality

- Complete installation and dismantling by our experienced team

- Continuous support from our ice masters throughout the entire event

This allowed us to ensure that all athletes could compete under professional conditions at the highest level.

Special Requirements for Synchronized Figure Skating

One technical highlight of this project was the specialized ice thickness:
For the world championships, we worked with an ice depth of 8 cm - approximately 3 cm more than a standard hockey rink.

This adapted construction provided ideal conditions for synchronized skating and further demonstrated our expertise in tailoring ice surfaces precisely to the requirements of a wide range of sports disciplines.

Another International Highlight for AST in 2026

Following successful major projects such as the DEL Winter Game in Dresden and the Olympic Festival in Budweis, the World Synchronized Skating Championships in Salzburg represented another significant milestone for us.

Our Austrian Sales Director, Martin Weirather, summarized it perfectly:

“After the DEL Winter Game in Dresden and the Olympic Festival in Budweis, the World Synchronized Skating Championships were the next major highlight for us this year. This once again proves that we stand not only for the highest quality, but above all for versatility.”

International Visibility for Salzburg and Our Industry

Even during the preceding press conference, it became clear how significant this event would be for Salzburg, both from a sporting and economic perspective.

With our technical expertise, we were able to contribute to the successful execution of an international world championship at the highest level and help position Salzburg as a major venue in international winter sports.
