Feuerstein Arena Schierke
Last weekend the Schierke Feuerstein Arena, another showcase project from AST, was opened. The covered outdoor ice rink impresses with a sophisticated architectural membrane roof and a multifunctional sports area that allows year-round use. AST equipped the arena with an Icephalt system, which is an absolute innovation relating to permanently installed ice rinks. The AST Icephalt ice rink was designed for permanent indoor and outdoor skating venues. The refrigeration tubing is embedded in a covering layer and then covered over with a special asphalt. This enables the elastic properties to be retained and prevents cracks from forming, even with large temperature differences. The AST Icephalt ice rink is based on an innovative, uncomplicated building process, which significantly shortens construction time, and thus also reduces costs.
Advantages of the asphalt ice rink:
• Dual use: ice rink in winter, sports surface in summer
• Suitable for the application of various sporting surfaces, etc.
• Asphalt surface can be used for solar energy generation during the summer
• Flexible shape of the ice surface possible
• Short construction time, no curing time, as is the case for concrete pistes
The rink was completed with dasher boards, a modern cooling aggregate and the all-electric ice resurfacing machine Mammoth from W. M. GmbH. Besides AST also delivered equipment like ice skates, skating assistents, score boards, ice sticks and accessories. An extravagant spheric roof that was designed by the architectural office Graft covers the ice surface from rain and snow and allows an unobstructed view of the stunning landscape of the Harz mountains. Thanks to the new arena, the city of Schierke is not only able to revive its long ice hockey tradition, but also offers a beautiful new rink, where young and old can enjoy ice skating in an enchanting winter scenery.
